Welcome to the Calvary Center for Culture and Community!
Following a 125-year-plus tradition of providing sanctuary for all in our community, Calvary is a community hub for West and Southwest Philadelphia, bringing one of the nation’s most vibrant and diverse communities together - and serving over 5,000 community members each year.
The Calvary building is home to a variety of arts organizations, civic organizations, educational organizations, social-enterprise organizations, religious congregations and faith-based groups, and other community-based nonprofits. The building also offers affordable space appropriate for neighborhood forums, weddings, concerts, etc.
Mission
Founded in 2000, the mission of the Calvary Center for Culture and Community is to foster community engagement in and beyond the neighborhoods of West and Southwest Philadelphia, by preserving the historic Calvary church building and managing within it a sustainable, accessible center for diverse community activity.
Without limiting the above-stated mission, the following are among the Calvary Center’s specific objectives:

To build community and improve the quality of life and well-being of West and South Philadelphia residents, especially those in neighborhoods surrounding Calvary Center.

Without limiting the above-stated mission, the following are among the Calvary Center’s specific objectives:
- To ensure consistent maintenance of both the interior and exterior of the historic Calvary United Methodist Church building and property, while sustaining its historical, cultural, and architectural character and projecting a positive presence along the Baltimore Avenue corridor.
- To serve as an inclusive meeting and gathering place for groups and organizations whose missions directly benefit the broader community, including but not limited to: religious congregations and faith-based groups; creative and performing arts organizations; civic organizations; schools and educational organizations; social-enterprise organizations; and other community-based nonprofit organizations.
- To provide affordable rental space for community groups, performing artists, social entrepreneurs, and local residents.
